Slovenian Theatre in the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Journal Pozorište

Almir Bašović

Published for decades in Tuzla, the journal Pozorište (since 1953) was a type of grandstand of theatre life in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. As such, Slovenian authors and Slovenian performances pushed for a prominent place in it. The paper analyses texts that reflected upon Slovenian theatre and, using the recorded data, attempts to arrive at relevant conclusions about the relationship between the Slovenian and the Bosnian and Herzegovinian theatre environments.

Almir Bašović obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo, where he teaches in the Department of Comparative Literature. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles as well as the book Čehov i prostor [Chekhov and Space] (Novi Sad, 2008), which was also published in Slovenian language by Ljubljana City Theatre in its series MGL Library (2013). With Sava Anđelković he edited the collection Drama i vrijeme [Drama and Time] (Sarajevo, 2010). As a dramaturg he has collaborated in many performances of the Sarajevo National Theatre. Among his staged plays are Priviđenja iz srebrenog vijeka [Mirages from the Silver Ages], RE: Pinocchio and Lica [Characters]. His plays have been translated into German, French, Italian, Czech, Macedonian and Albanian languages.
