All in the Timing is a series of one-act plays written by David Ives from the 1980s onward. At the centre of each one-act play is a man who, in spite of being submerged into everyday life situations and relations, doesn’t lose perspective on the humorous and monotonous nature of his life. And yet this is not a staging of some existential drama or (petit) bourgeois naturalism. Although the text can be read and understood in a highly serious manner, we have to allow ourselves to smile when we recognise ourselves in the characters who strive to show us something familiar. The performance emphasises the crucial problem of human existence – time. It shows us in a comic (and melodramatic) way what is the essence of attainment in our lives: all in the timing.
